Pat Robertson Apologizes

On Wednesday, CBN founder Pat Robertson released a statement “clarifying” his suggestion offered Monday to the effect that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez should be assassinated. Earlier in the day, he had claimed that press reports had “misinterpreted” his comments. “There are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him,” Robertson said. “I was misinterpreted by the AP, but that happens all the time.”
Robertson’s statement, released by CBN, he said: Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement. I spoke in frustration that we should accommodate the man who thinks the U.S. is out to kill him. Thinking aloud is risky business — for all of us. In his statement, Robertson admitted that he had “adlibbed a comment” as he spoke of Chavez’s assassination. We can all benefit by remembering that we will give an answer for every idle word.
