Tuesday, Speaking at Columbia University, New York

I will participate Tuesday in a symposium on religion and public life at Columbia University in the City of New York. The event will be held in the Rotunda of Columbia’s Low Library, and the university’s president, Lee C. Bollinger will preside. The program should be interesting.

I hosted the radio program from the Empire State Building Monday afternoon, using Salem’s studio in that historic building. As I told the radio audience, the great mast atop the Empire State Building was originally intended to serve as a blimp mooring station. As it turned out, winds and “unfortunate trial efforts” led to the dropping of that proposal. Alas, we arrived at the great edifice by cab.
